Saturday 21 November 2015

I have been a member of Wild Guzzi forum for a while now http://wildguzzi.com/forum/ I have enjoyed the topics and discussions that can be found there. I have seen riding opportunities but haven't been able to go. The Virginia Guzzi group had a lunch gathering scheduled and the stars, the moon aligned for me... Brisk weather was to be on this day leaving out @ 07:30 at a balmy 34 degrees, that soared to 54 degrees later on that afternoon on this 400 mile round trip ride. I have ridden NC 158 and was familiar with this route. I had never rode on US 29 past Danville VA before. Nice thing is it's seemingly not a heavily traveled for a Saturday. Between Danville and Lynchburg 29 is kind of a boring ride, but after Lynchburg it becomes a riders four lane road going up over and down through various valleys and up again with curves and scenic vista's. About 18 miles from my destination. It is necessary to take VA-6 a two lane road into the mountains to the town of Scottsville. While riding along VA-6 I noticed a road sign that really caught my eye... Walton's Mountain Museum, I have always enjoyed that wonderful show and wanted to visit this place as well but I knew I had a full day already so that's for another ride on another day. Scottsville VA is a very picturesque inviting place situated adjacent the James River approximately 100 plus miles to Washington DC. We dined at Amici's Italian Bistro http://www.amicisscottsville.com/ food and service was great. I met some really nice folks riding some cool old and newer Guzzi's One gentleman rode in from Maryland on his old Guzzi with 71,000 plus miles. One gentleman was riding a cool old Norton. There were a couple of married folks with their his and her Guzzi's. I had the newest Guzzi there a 2012 Norge. Many were smoking it over and asking questions etc. I have to take a brief moment and speak about the power delivery of that wonderful Guzzi 8V GT 1200 power plant with great motor vibes and power when and where you need it. You have to ride a Guzzi to know and understand this. The Norge is a very comfortable, great handling, surprisingly quick motorcycle and it does many things well. I can't really say enough about what an enjoyable event and ride this turned out to be. This is the furthest I have ridden in one day arriving back in Winston Salem NC at dusk. A very satisfying day.

Greetings boys and girls. Having ridden and owned various styles and makes of motorcycles over the years I thought perhaps I would start this blog for a few reasons...

1. My latest acquisition... a new 2012 (purchased in 2015) Moto Guzzi Norge GT 8V 1200 a "sport touring bike" designed to be a capable, comfortable mileage gobbler. If your interested in learning more about Moto Guzzi there are numorus good sources online, maintained and hosted by a fanatical Guzzi following. Here in North Carolina your can see and test ride a Moto Guzzi at Matthews Fun Machines, Matthews NC. In the greater Charlotte area.

2. Having written for a small regional magazine here in NC for a few years I became uninspired and haven't written anything for sometime now. I am hoping this blog will help rekindle that old passion of saying whats on my mind via a different way and means.

3. Seeing other blogs and YouTubers became a motivating factor. I have several hobbies that I can utilize, photography, music, travel, being uncaged, Riding with others on worthy causes and the relaxation of solo riding.

Motorcycling is... For me a unbridled freedom, an often intoxicating passion one yearns to revisit even if it's just to unwind on a short ride to feel the wind on your face, smell the air, take in the sights. Folks that's good stuff.

So... One here is looking forward to a fun and safe 2015 riding season. BK
